Planetary combinations
When planets align in specific ways in a birth chart, they form patterns called Yogas — combinations that shape your natural strengths and themes.
What is a Yoga?
In this context, Yoga means “combination” or “union” — not the physical practice. When specific planets occupy specific signs, houses, or relationships to each other, they form a recognizable pattern that classical texts describe in detail.
Think of Yogas as recurring signatures in birth charts. Thousands of charts have been studied over millennia, and certain planetary arrangements consistently correlate with certain life themes. The classical texts catalog hundreds of these patterns with detailed formation rules.
How Yogas form
Yogas are defined by specific conditions in a birth chart:
- A planet occupies a specific sign or house
- Two planets are in a specific angular relationship (conjunction, aspect, mutual exchange)
- A house lord occupies another specific house
- A combination of all of the above — multi-planet patterns
The strength of a Yoga depends on the dignity and condition of the planets involved. A Yoga formed by strong, well-placed planets manifests more clearly than one formed by weak or afflicted planets.
Major categories
Wealth yogas (Dhana)
Formed when lords of wealth houses (2nd, 11th) combine with angular or trinal lords. These indicate strong earning potential and material comfort.
Examples:: Dhana Yoga, Lakshmi Yoga
Wisdom yogas (Raja)
Created when angular lords (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) combine with trinal lords (1st, 5th, 9th). These indicate leadership, recognition, and influence.
Examples:: Raja Yoga, Pancha Mahapurusha
Spiritual yogas
Formed by specific placements of Jupiter, the Moon, and the 9th house. These point to philosophical depth and inner clarity.
Examples:: Gajakesari Yoga, Hamsa Yoga
Communication yogas
Mercury-based combinations that indicate analytical ability, eloquence, and skill in communication or commerce.
Examples:: Budhaditya Yoga, Saraswati Yoga
Challenging yogas
Not all yogas are favorable. Some indicate areas of life that need more effort — health, relationships, or finances. Awareness of these helps you prepare.
Examples:: Kemadruma Yoga, Daridra Yoga
The scale of Yoga detection
Classical texts describe hundreds of Yogas across the canonical Vedic corpus. Naksh covers the major patterns described in the foundational texts including the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Saravali, and Phala Deepika — every match in your chart cites the verse it comes from.
Every Yoga description in Naksh has been rewritten in modern, empowering language — no archaic terms, no alarming predictions. Each one carries a citation to the specific classical text it comes from.
Important context
Most charts contain multiple Yogas — some favorable, some challenging. They interact with each other, and their effects are modulated by the Dasha period you are currently in. A powerful Yoga may lie dormant until its ruling planet’s Dasha arrives.
Yogas describe tendencies, not certainties. They identify natural strengths and areas of potential. What you do with them is always up to you.
